The Communities surrounding Glenville and Cahiers are varied and full of exciting things to do and visit.

Cullowhee: Home to Western Carolina University, WCU, is a university in the North Carolina University system. Vibrant activities abound. NCAA sports, Theater, performances and academic lectures that are open and supported by the community. 

Sylva: The center of Jackson County, Sylva is the County Seat and home to most governmental services. Sylva boasts possibly one of the most attractive hospital locations in America. Harris Regional Hospital is part of a greater network providing acclaimed care. Downtown Sylva has a quintessential Main Street with the original courthouse, converted to public library, overlooking local shops,antique stores a Mast General Store and many inviting breweries and casual dining.

Dillsboro: Craft and antique shopping are the big attraction along with Old Victorian Homes and Inns. 

Bryson City: Known as the home of the Great Smoky Mountain Rail Road. Bryson City is a hub to outdoor activities located in the Nantahala Gorge for whitewater and Tsali Rec area for mountain biking. Bryson City has its own entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park at Deep Creek. A walkable town center includes local artisan shops and casual dining.

Cherokee: Come to Cherokee and learn about our native heritage in the mountains. Cherokee has grown in recent years to be an entertainment destination with a Casino, fun gift and craft shopping in the numerous stores. Outdoor life includes the most popular southern access to GSMNP and now Cherokee has a brand new mountain bike trail system.

Highlands: Life on the Highlands Cashiers Plateau includes spectacular views, superb golf communities and clubs. Waterfalls and hiking trails draw visitors and local alike. Main Street in Highlands includes the finest dining at world class restaurants, or casual pubs. Stroll along Main Street and shop the unique boutiques and cute gift stores. Highlands Cashiers Hospital is located between Cashiers and Highland on Hwy 64.

Franklin: The gateway to the western mountains from Hwys' 23, 441,& 64 Franklin has all the major box stores with a cute Main Street highlighting the local Scottish Heritage and its gem and precious stone mining histories. In the heart of town exists a miles long green way walk that follows the Little Tennessee River and is a joy to walk,  Franklin is the County seat for Macon County.
